Multicultural Winchester

Winchester is well known for its cathedral and the fact that it was the capital of England under under the reign of King Alfred the Great, but it's not known as a centre of multiculturalism. Winchester is changing. It is a prosperous city with lots of facilities and is readily accessible from London or Southampton. It is very close to the M3 motorway and there are frequent trains. There is Winchester University and the Southampton School of Art, which attract many foreign students. There's a big service industry. It is a growing city and with growth come people from all over the world.

Bringing in Minority Groups

For some time, we thought of the problem of minority groups not having much representation in local government and education. That's how CultureNet was born.

CultureNet was set up almost two years ago to bring together Winchester’s ethnic minority communities to promote opportunities for greater integration and to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the city and district.  CultureNet aims to do this through various means, including events such as One Big Table, Minority Matters and monthly social forums.
